Diversified Chiropractic Manipulation
Diversified chiropractic manipulation is one of the most commonly used techniques by chiropractors. This is also known as a chiropractic adjustment. This maneuver is a high-velocity, low-amplitude force applied to specific areas of the body to improve the patients range of motion and positively stimulate the nervous system.
Flexion-Distraction is a gentle and slow technique used to provide decompression to the spine and stretch the paraspinal musculature. This is a manual technique used by many chiropractors to gap the joints of the low back helping to relieve pressure on spinal structures such as intervertebral discs and nerve roots.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)
IASTM is a technique aimed at reducing myofascial trigger points, scar tissue, adhesions and hypertonicity that may have been caused by trauma, inflammation, prolonged positioning/overuse. This helps to reduce symptoms associated with acute/chronic muscle pain.
Interferential Electrical Stimulation
Interferential electrical stimulation applies electrical current to damaged or injured tissues in the body through small electrodes that are placed over the area. This therapy is meant to boost the bodies natural process for responding to pain, increasing blood flow and hormone production which promotes healing.
Therapeutic ultrasound is a non-invasive technique using low-power ultrasound waves that penetrate the tissue of the affected area creating vibrations and increasing the temperature of the tissue. This draws blood to the target area reducing inflammation and providing pain relief.
Assisted and passive stretching is incredible important in improving ones range of motion. It can be very easy to forget to stretch on a regular basis and for some muscle groups, stretching can actually be quite difficult to do on your own. With assisted stretching, you are able to get a more thorough stretch while remaining completely relaxed. Each stretch should be held for approximately 30 seconds with constant communication with the therapist as to when and where you feel the stretch. Flexibility can also be measured so that goals can be set when stretching and to quantify the improvement in range of motion.
